A combined Association Liability insurance incorporating indemnity against professional negligence, wrongful acts by office bearers etc is in place with appropriate extensions, provides indemnity up to a limit of $1,000,000.  An excess of $1,000 applies to each and every claim.  This is a ‘claims made’ contract addressing only those claims notified to the Company during the period of insurance.  Any matter likely to give rise to a claim must be reported to the Company immediately it is brought to notice.  Failure to do so can result in denial of liability by the Company.

An optional policy insures caravans and trailers as declared anywhere in Australia up to $5,000 any one vehicle and is subject to an excess of $300 each and every claim.

All of these insurances are reviewed annually in conjunction with Rotary’s appointed insurance brokers on a national basis with specific recognition of local trends and claims experience.  Annual premiums are levied on a per capita basis to all Rotary Districts.

Insurance is a vital element of protection for all Rotarians and you are reminded of your obligation to exercise care and due diligence in all of your Rotary activities to reduce the incidence of loss and injury and help to conserve the cost of this necessary insurance protection.

Most insurance policies contain exclusions, conditions and extensions and Rotary’s insurance portfolio is no exception.  These are varied and too numerous to mention in this brief summary.  If at all in doubt on any insurance matter pertaining to Rotary activities consult with your District Insurance Adviser who will have the necessary experience and information at hand to attend to your enquiry.

The system of reporting and investigating accidents and losses has been arranged so that claims can be processed and settled with minimum delay.  Ensure that YOU do not prolong this process unnecessarily by giving timely notice to your District Insurance Adviser and complete all relevant documentation and submit it promptly.

Do not ever admit liability for any loss, damage or injury or incur any expense by litigation or agreement.  This is strictly the responsibility of our chosen insurers.

Any summons, writ or other legal demand must immediately be directed to the insurer.  If in doubt your District Insurance Advisor is best able to inform you of the most appropriate action.

This brief summary is not intended, nor should it be relied upon as a substitute for the detailed terms, conditions and exclusions contained in the various national Rotary insurance contracts.
